FAQs

Why counseling?

As the stigma around mental health continues to be challenged, more people are acknowledging the interconnected nature of our mind, body, and relationships. Our holistic approach aims to honor the complexity of our lives. There are many reasons to seek counseling, including: chronic and acute emotional challenges, negative irrational thinking patterns, unhealthy lifestyle habits, relationship communication, conflict and intimacy concerns, and so much more. A common analogy of therapy is like going to the gym for your mind.

What about nutrition?

We offer nutrition counseling and events to support our philosophy of everything being connected physiologically. Just like the quality of fuel we put into our vehicle, what we put into our body matters. Food affects how we feel, and how feel influences what we choose. Nutrition counseling supports a healthier relationship with food, including evaluation, assessment, and measurement with our BIA scale, along with other tools and resources customized to each individual’s goals.

Do you take insurance?

While we do not accept insurance, we are able to provide superbills that can be submitted for out-of-network reimbursement. Several of our clients have had success with this option. We recommend checking with your provider in advance.

How do I get started?

Great question! You can start by visiting our About page to learn more about our team of clinicians. Once you have identified who you would like to work with, you can request a brief complimentary phone consultation to ask any questions. Otherwise, if you feel ready, you can request an appointment. For other inquiries, feel free to reach out via e-mail.

What is the difference between counseling and therapy?

Nothing. These terms are interchangeable. There are, however, different forms of licensure based on the associated training. This is an important distinction from other service providers, as our clinicians operate under ethical and legal boundaries, including HIPAA guidelines.

What do the different abbreviations stand for?

LPC = Licensed Professional Counselor
APC = Associate Professional Counselor
MFT = Marriage & Family Therapist
AMFT = Associate Marriage & Family Therapist
RDN = Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

How often do I need to visit?

Every person is different. Each of our clinicians are trained to assess individual needs, as well as collaborate to support limitations in finances and schedules. So, when in doubt, just ask! On average, Individual mental health counseling can range from 6 months to 1 year, meeting between weekly and monthly. Couples counseling typically requires at least 6-10 sessions. Similar to mental health, nutrition counseling often begins with 4 weekly sessions and then shifts to 30 or 60 minute follow up sessions on a biweekly or monthly basis.

Why is the practice called Anchored Mind?

We are big fans of water. It also happens to be a great metaphor. “You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn how to surf” (Jon Kabat-Zinn) is an empowering perspective on navigating our mental and physical health. While there is so much in this world that is not in our control, we must focus on what is. Considering the question, “what is your anchor?” helps keep us connected to who we desire to be.
