Happiness

…and yet, happiness is an emotion like any other. By nature, emotions are temporary. Therefore, it is unrealistic to be happy all of the time. The intent here is not to be a party pooper, rather it is to help manage expectations. When we do not feel happy, it is not simply a problem to solve. Instead, be curious about what other emotions are active. What is the story? Do they need anything? Is it a chance to speak up or ask for help? At the very least, sharing our emotion is an opportunity to connect with our self and others...

And when we connect, can you guess what emotion that often inspires? That’s right, happiness. Every emotion has a different purpose. Happy reflects what we care about. So, try this thought experiment: ask yourself, what do I care about? See how many people, places, and things you can list. Now check in: how do you feel? Most of us would likely say some flavor of happy — grateful, peaceful, funny, hopeful, content, etc. This is a quick, easy, and very beneficial activity to practice every day, cultivating your own experience of happiness. Enjoy!
