Daily dose of healthy communication

A Harvard Psychologist weighs in on what to say every day for a healthy relationship. She notes that "the happiest couples don't avoid conflict; they navigate it by speaking to each other with appreciation and respect." Relationships often end simply from poor communication patterns and an unwillingness to change behavior. If you practice the following phrases, your relationship is likely better than most...

1. "I appreciate your effort" (bonus points for specific examples)

2. "I like you" (try to include why)

3. "Help me better understand this"

4. "I'm listening..." (add eye contact)

5. "I'm sorry." (note the period; don't add anything else)

6. "I forgive you. Can you forgive me?"

7. "I am committed to you"

8. "Let's have some fun!"

9. "I love you"
