The Man Who Looks Put Together But Feels Lost Inside
By Chris Boyle
He’s the guy who shows up.
Career is on track. Keeps it together in meetings. Maybe he’s married, maybe he’s a father. He gets things done. On paper, he’s doing well—maybe even thriving.
But on the inside, it’s a different story.
He’s constantly anxious.
He's exhausted from keeping it all together.
He scrolls late at night, drinks more than he’d like to admit, or buries himself in work or workouts.
He might feel numb in relationships, ashamed of his inner world, or like he’s living someone else’s life entirely.
I know that man well—because I’ve been him. And I’ve sat across from him in sessions and retreats too many times to count.
Here’s the truth:
You can be high-functioning and still be hurting.
You can look strong and still feel empty.
You can be surrounded by people and still feel completely unknown.
And it doesn’t have to stay that way.
Healing doesn’t require falling apart. It requires honesty. And courage. And the willingness to admit that something needs to change.
If this resonates with you—or with someone you know—please know this: there’s a way forward. Through counseling, community, and a different kind of inner work, it’s possible to stop performing and start truly living.
If you’re ready to take that step, I’d love to talk.
